The project had a duration of eleven years and four and a half months. During this period, a medicinal plants garden was established inside the compound of the then National Science and Development Board (NSDB) which is now the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). This was later transferred to two different locations for two reasons namely unfavorable environmental conditions and lack of funds. Within this same period, four production areas totalling to five hectares were established. Sixteen plants were propagated and planted in these gardens and production farms. For the supply of medicinal plants raw materials, 45 plants have been delivered in either fresh or dried form to the different projects under the program. These raw materials were either harvested from the production farms or collected from within Los Banos and nearby areas. Soil fertility in three production areas were evaluated through soil analysis for pH, organic matter and NPK. Insect pests and diseases of some plants were also observed and their yield monitored. To obtain higher yield, cultural management studies were done especially on type of planting material, pest management, planting density and fertilizer requirements.
