Representations of self for people who are homeless.

People experiencing starvation, malnutrition, having a poor hygiene, suffering from chronic illness or sometimes leading to mental disorder due to different factors called "Homeless". This are the factors made the researchers prompted to study the self representation of people who are homeless. Using a qualitative approach and phenomenological method allowed the researcher to describe the participant's thoughts and feeling that a qualitative approach can viably to describe. The study determined the self-representation by interviewing five study participants aged 21 to 40 years old and participants who lives near in the streets, public places, a descent into homeless and poverty. Results show that a homeless people see themselves as only "Homeless not hopeless people". They are working hard just to survive and provide their needs. In addition, majority of the participants were originally from rural area, they go to the city for the reason that they thought the future is in here. Homeless have a similarity when it comes for the way they earned money and also being educated is one of the important things that they want to do. Using the "Three Role os Self", results came up to form a three themes : 1.) Survivor 2.) Fighter 3.) Dreamer. The 3 themes summarized the representation of self of an homeless person. This paper provides information about the reality and experience of a homeless person and understand their self perception or a mental image regardless of their situation.

This study wanted to determine the self-representation of homeless adults focusing on how they live their lives and how they see themselves.
