A pharmacognostical study on the fruit and seed of Hydnocarpus alcalae C. DC.

Hydnocarpus alcalae C. DC. is a dioecious plant, although morphological differentiation is not complete. Functional dioecism is correlated with the peculiarity of the structure of the flowers. In one type the stamens are morphologically reduced although not completely atrophied, whereas in the other type, it is the pistil which is morphologically reduced, so that the former functions strictly as a female while the latter functions as a male
Certain species are used extensively in the treatment of leprosy.(Author)
