Objectives

Total body and dry weight measurements of hemodialysis patients using single or multi-frequency impedance analyses ( SFBIA-BIABCM were compared. The digital weighing scale with SF-BIA measures the patient/s total body (TBW), free fat mass or lean tissue mass (LTM) and fat mass (FAT). The MF-BIABCM measures the degree of overhydration, extracellular and intracellular fluids of the patients in addition to LTM and FAT. Significantly hnt was obtained when SF-BIA was used indicating that it is more reliable to use than MF-BIA when measuring TBW.However, no significant difference was obtained when dry weights of patuients were determined using either methods.This suggests that both methods are equally effective in measuring dry weight of patients. Dry weight M and FAT obtained from digital weighing scale measurements. The digital weighing scale with SF-BIA can be used to meas  patients and assist physicians in computing the optimum ultra filtration target for patients, thereby avoiding adverse physiologic/ pathologic effects of overhydration and/ or overdrying.
