Background: This study was done to know the incidence and factors associated with pleural effusion among patients who underwent TOF correction at the Philippine Heart Center.

Methods: This is a retrospective study. All patients aged 1 to 18 year old who underwent TOF correction at the Philippine Heart Center from January 1, 2010 to December 2014 were included in this study. There were 82 subjects. Data were obtained from the medical records, medtrak for laboratories and Novaweb for review of chest x-rays. Stata SE version 13 was used for data  analysis.

Results: The factors that affected the occurrence of pleural effusion after Tetralogy of Fallot Correction are prolonged bypass time with a p value of 0.001 and age at the time of operation with a p value of 0.039.

Conclusion: The factors associated with pleural effusion on patients who underwent TOF correction at the Philippine Heart Center were age at the time of TOF correction and prolonged bypass time. Post operative infection is the factor associated when transudative and exudative pleural effusions were compared.
