A locally fabricated hemoglobinometer was enhanced to enable it to measure other clinical parameters such as hemoglobin, glucose cholesterol bilirubin, urea and uric acid. Enzymatic method of measurement was employed for the measurement of these parameters. The device provides a direct reading of the concentrations of the different analytes. The response of the device correlates very well with the result obtained from a commercial model of a spectrophotometer. The fabrication cost of the device is about 2,000.00 PhP, which is 30 times lower than that of the commercial model. Cost analysis of the reagents used showed that the anlysis cost can be reduced by a factor of 3-4 if the reagents are locally produced
To expand the capability of the hemoglobinometer and make it useful for a wider range of wide analysis. It also aimed to modify the design of the photometer to enable it to provide a direct reading measurement of the levels of glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid in the blood.
