This is a study on the comparison of the effect of Simvastatin and Avocado fruit flesh on the level of LDL-Cholesterol on 60 rabbits. The rabbits were devided into 3 groups, each given different diets: regular diet, and regular diet with Simvastatin, regular diet with avocado.
All the rabbits were made hypercholesterolemic by giving one egg yolk per day equivalent to 20 gms. (103-148 mg of cholesterol) for one month. The treatment were also given for one month after the induction of hypercholesterolemia. Lipid profile were taken at week 0, week 4, and week 8.
Statistical analysis showed no significant difference in the lowering effect of Simvastatin and avocado on LDL-cholesterol.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES: To compare the effect of Simvastatin and avocado on the level of LDL-Cholesterol among hypercholesterolemic rabbits.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: 1. To determine the mean LDL-cholesterol levels of 3 groups of rabbits receiving the following diet regimen: a. Group x -pellets and eggs b. Group y-pellets and eggs+Simvastatin c. Group z -pellets and eggs + avocado2. 2. To determine the mean LDL-cholesterol levels at different time points (wk 0,wk 4,wk 8) 3. To determine whether the observed differences between different groups were statistically significant.
