[Community drugstore] [Botika sa barangay].

 Parado JP

Describes the botika sa barangay (community drugstore), a part of the Bohol Maternal and Child Health/Family Planning (MCH/FP) project. Discusses how a botica was set up from a small capital, usually from P100 to P500. It is run by an attendant with minimal salary. Part of the returns went to replenish the stock; part was spent in operating expenses; a third portion went to repay the loan (capital), and a fourth portion was used for barrio improvement projects. The goal of the project was to make cheap basic medicines available to rural people. (Annotated Inventory of Population-Related Studies in the Philippines, 1982)
