Much research has been conducted investigating post retirement adjustment as an evaluation of quality of life. Several studies and theories in social, psychological, and nursing field discuss adjustment period as a component in propositional statements. However, there is a need to develop a theory that focuses on adjustment process of retirement--a lifelong process of adjustment utilizing self and environment to be attained successfully. In this study, a theory on adjustment process was constructed by establishing axioms and developing propositions. The developed theory suggests that C.R.Y.S.T.A.L adjustment on positive experiences: starts sense of self, and happy acceptance after retirement lead to successful adjustment while on negative life experiences: starts sense of self, role shifting, and then reestablishes structure, leading to acceptance and successful adjustment.
