Automatic computation for the composition of parenteral nutrition fluids.

Ernesto P. Namin

A Lotus 1-2-3--based computer program designed to speed up computation for the ingredients in high-calories parenteral nutrition is presented. In consists of unaltered basic formulas or their restructured segments entered into the spreadsheet cells to enable convenient automatic computation to produce the desired quantities of different solutions that can be directly read as microdrops per minute or milliliters per hour for ease of administration. Because computation is automatic and results are virtually instantaneous, trial and error may be used in inputting requirements of carbohydrate concentration and protein and fluid to allow easy adjustment of dosages without considerably increasing computing time.
