This study sought to determine the factors that affect the compliance of couples with artificial family planning in a barangay in Agdao, Davao City. It aimed to answer the level of compliance of couples in the said barangay in terms of: status; accessibilty ; side effects; beliefs and practices; the factors affecting compliance of couples to the program; the significant relationship between the factors affecting the compliance and the level of compliance of couples with the program; and the primary factor that contributes to the compliance of the couples with the artificial family planning program.

In gathering the data, the researchers decided to take 40 couples who are using artificial family planning namely pills, condom, IUD, and depo provera, as respondents.

The descriptive method of research was used. The data was gathered through the formulation and distribution of a restricted type of questionnaire to determine the factors that affect the level of compliance of couples who are using artificial family planning methods. The statistical treatments used were the weighted mean, Pearson R, and multiple regression method.

Study found that the couples were undecided on their compliance due to their financial capability, adaptation to side effects, and conformity to their beliefs and practices. They disagreed that the method was accessible for them. Economic status was the primary factor that greatly affects the level of compliance of couples with artificial family planning method. Quantitative data showed that women who did not use contraceptives were more likely to view it as more or equally harmful to health, compareed to pregnancy.

It is recommended that couples should follow the artificial family planning method used as prescribed or indicated. The barangay health workers should encourage the couples more to use whatever methods available in the health center by educating and making them understand the advantages of complying with the chosen artificial family planning method. The government as well as some non-government agencies should provide more avenue for more advanced information dissemination among couples who are using artificial family planning method. Researchers and fellow student nurses should do further studies so taht they would have more means to encourage the couples to visit or consult their nearest health center to know the ways of availing of the artificial family planning method in a more convenient and economical way. And lastly, the administration and faculty sholud incorporate this study in the curriculum.
