Throat swabs taken from 210 children, 5-12 years of age, and residents of Barangay 708, Zone 78, Leveriza, Malate, Manila were studied to determine the incidence of Streptococcus pyogenes as pharyngeal flora. Results showed the absence of S. pyogenes among the samples studied. This may be attributed to several factors, among which are improvements in the living conditions of the resident families and the active participation of the barangay health center in health care of the residents.
