Phase I activities (i.e.(1) Sampling which includes anthropometric measurements, physical exams, blood collection and skin testing, (2)Assesment of nutritional states and grouping, and (3)Immunological laboratory determination) were done on 50 pre-school children from Pook Ricarte, a community near U.P. Diliman, Q.C.. The follow-up of diarrheal incidence (Phase II) is presently on-going.

Objectives

To study a functional consequence of malnutrition by determininga. alteration in the host defense system andb. incidence of morbidity in normal and malnourished pre-school Filipino children.2.To examine some anthropometric indices and corresponding cut-off points used to assess nutritional status in the country in relatin to growth retardation and associated alteration s in the host defense system.
