Forty cases of Taeniasis saginata detected during the course of a parasitic survey in Jaro, Leyte were treated with Bithionol (Bitin). Fourteen cases expelled complete strobila with scolices while among the remaining 26 cases, scolices were not recovered. On post-treatment follow-up from 3 to 6 months, two cases gave histories of passing tapeworm segments again and had Taenia ova in their stools. In view of the length of' the period of follow-up, it is not possible to say whether these 2 cases were real treatment-failures or re-infections. If they were treatment failures, the cure rate would be 95%, while if they were re-infections, the cure rate would be 100%. None of the treated cases experienced any untoward drug reactions.
