Abstract: The issue on mental health has always been a perennial obstacle both in the medical and in the political field. Anxiety disorder involves more than temporary worry or fear. Researchers found that genetic and environmental factors,frequently in interaction with one another, are risk factors for anxiety disorder. Depression (major depressive disorder or clinical depression) is a common but serious mood disorder. It causes severe symptoms that affect how you feel, think, and handle daily activities, such as sleeping, eating, or working. Medical school is inherently a stressful and challenging academic experience, medical students are vulnerable to depression and anxiety. Medical training involves numerous risk factors for mental illness, such as role transition, decreased sleep, relocation resulting in fewer available support systems and feelings isolation. Since this stressful lifestyle continues throughout a physician's career, medical school is a critical period to develop and utilize effective coping strategies. General Objectives: To determine the prevalence of depression and anxiety among a sample of 352 (still excluding level four) medical students attending a private medical institute in Cebu City and to examine the differences according to the participants' age, gender, year level, and pre-medicine course as well as the extent to which the participants' perceived stress predicts depression and anxiety. Specific Objectives: 1. To determine the severity distribution of depression, anxiety and stress as measured by DASS-21 according to demographic classifications ( year level and sex) of the medical students of a private medical school year 2016 - 2017 in Cebu City. 2. To determine the level of depression, anxiety and stress among medical students according to demographics ( year level and sex). 3. To determine the relationship between demographic variables (sex and year level) and DAS (depression, anxiety and stress). 4. To determine correlations between depression, anxiety and stress. Significance of the Study: The results of the study may help the institute improve its mental health services as well as aid in the promotion of holistic environment. By identifying the factors that contribute to the prevalence of anxiety and depression among the students, the parents and faculty may be able to better facilitate the learning in such away may decrease the level of stress. The result will benefit the students by helping them recognize their stressor. In collaboration with their support system, they may create a sense of well being and in turn alleviate anxiety and depression. Research Methodology: The study will be conducted at a College of Medicine in the Philippines during 2016 - 2017 academic year. In this cross-sectional study, participants will be all the male and female medical students in the three academic years of the chosen College of Medicine in the Philippines during 2016 - 2017 academic year. For Data Collection Process, following the granting of ethical approval from the institution to conduct the study, a day will be planned by the researchers to meet the students per year level to explain the study and secure informed consents, stating that the study is voluntary. Once they signed, the students will be given a questionnaire  package to complete and return to the researcher before leaving the lecture room. The participation will be entirely voluntary, thus to encourage participation, the researchers will distribute snacks during the data gathering.
