Abstract

This research study was conducted in an attempt to determine the effectiveness of paper mosaic and painting therapy in decreasing the level of depression among adult schizophrenic patients. This is experimental correlational study aiming to answer the following questions: 1) What is the level of depression  among adult schizophrenic patients before undergoing painting therapy? 2) What is the level of depression among adult schizophrenic patients after undergoing painting therapy? 3) What is the level of depression among adult schizophrenic patients before undergoing mosaic therapy? 4) What is the level of depression among adult  schizophrenic patients undergoing  mosaic therapy? 5) is there a significant difference in the level of depression among adult schizophrenic patients before and after painting therapy? 6) Is there a significant difference  in the level of depression among adult schizophrenic patients before and after mosaic therapy? 7) To what extents are the difference in the effectiveness of paper mosaic and painting art therapy in decreasing the level of depression among adult schizophrenic patients? Our respondents are adult diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Ten (10) adults from Synergy Home care in Pacita, Laguna were chosen using purposive sampling. Four (4) sets of tests were constructed, two (2) for the Pre-test and Post-test of Painting Therapy, and another two (2) for the Pre-test and Post-test of Mosaic Therapy. The data obtained from the respondents as collectively classified, tallied, analyzed, and interpreted using the arithmetic mean and the t-test independent sample formula.

The study showed that there was no significant difference in the level of depression among adult schizophrenic patients of paper mosaic and painting art therapy. Therefore, the researchers concluded that either of the two is an effective intervention in decreasing the level of depression among adult schizophrenic patients
