FOOD HANDLER'S KNOWLEDGE ON FOOD SAFETY IN SCHOOL CANTEEN TOWARDS IMPROVED FOOD HANDLING SYSTEM.

The study was done to determine knowledge on food safety of food handlers in the University canteen in Laguna. The prevalence of nasal carriage of Staphylococcus aureus among food handlers was also determined.


A modified questionnaire was used to gather information about the respondents. Twelve percent of the food handlers are highly knowledgeable about food safety, 48% are moderately knowledgeable, 33% and 5% have low and very knowledge about proper handling, respectively. There is no significant difference between the  knowledge of food handlers and customers regarding safety in food handling. Forty four percent of the food handlers are positive for S. aureus. Knowledge on food safety does not affect prevalence of S. aureus.
