Abstract

Mutagenicity studies were done on a decoction of mahogany seeds, its alcoholic extract and mahogany seeds lipid layer using the Ames Test, Rec Assay and Micronucleus Test. These did not show direct DNA-damaging capacity. No genotoxicity was observed before metabolic activation on the neutralized sample, the alcoholic extract, and the lipid layer. However, genotoxicity before metabolic activation was observed with the decocotion. No chromosome breaking effect was observed.
