Hemophilia A: A case report.

This is a case of a 19 year old male admitted due to pain and swelling of the left knee associated with fever. Patient was initially managed as a case of septic arthritis and was given antibiotics, with arthrotomy and debridement on the left knee. He, however, had persistent bleeding at the surgical site with declining hemoglobin levels despite blood transfusions. Further inquiry revealed a history of prolonged bleeding in the past. Subsequently, diagnostic test for a possible coagulation disorder were done. Hemophilia A being the primary consideration. This was confirmed when Factor VIII activity was measured at 1%. Proper replacement therapy with fresh frozen plasma was given with which patient dramatically improved. (Author)
