Objectives

General Objective:
To determine the frequency and risk factors of wound dehiscence among patients who underwent major abdominal surgery at MCU-FDTMF Hospital from January 2001 up to December 2005.

Specific Objectives.
1.To determine the demographic profile of surgical patients with abdominal dehiscence at MCU-FDTMF Hospital from January 2001 up to December 2005,according to:age,sex,and economic status (charity or pay).
2.To determine whether age,sex,economic status,nutritionalstatus (BMI/serum albumin)antibiotic prophylaxis, technique of closure, type of surgery(emergency versus elective),duration of surgery, and presence of co-morbidity independently influence the development of abdominal wound dehiscence.
3.To determine the incidence and mortality rates of surgical patients with abdominal wound dehiscence at MCU-FDTMF Hospital during a 5-year period.
